22nd February

Please take a moment to look at this and sign the petition via the link at the bottom of the page.

The government is trying to introduce a bill meaning that any venue which wishes to play live music will have to pay a thousand pounds per year for the privillage. The penalty for not having a license will be a fine of up to twenty thousand pounds!

Think about it. No pub, school, arts centre, church hall or social club is going to pay that - It simply doesn't make economical sense.

I got my first chance to play music at school, and it's an experience I'll never forget. If this bill goes through, plenty of people like me will never get the chance to do this. Oasis, Radiohead, The Stone Roses, Blur, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles all met through jamming and playing at schools, colleges and local live music events. No-one starts at the big venues which can afford to pay those fees. Under this bill, it will be illegal for someone to play acoustic guitar at a party with over 12 people there!

Am I the only one who thinks this is completely crazy?!

It only takes a minute to fill out the petition, and if enough of us sign it, the Government may just review their plans.

BPM have already signed this petition and we think that you all should too. For the sake of the future of music from all styles.
